UUSI TYYLI

Uusi Tyyli (pronounced oo-si-tea-lee) is a new design movement that focuses on inclusive design at the heart of it’s model.

Uusi Tyyli was devised as a way to create subtle change in the art and design community by organising a movement they could adopt. A key part of creative inclusion is to maintain the energy of the moment – by including more types of people we get more energy to solve things and maintain a sense of excitement.

If the process is interesting then the result will be interesting. A goal constrains the imagination. The search for an objective becomes a trap. It is better to identify areas of focus.

Uusi Tyyli is not about training but about equipping people to think creatively about inclusion for themselves. To explore within the area of focus, inclusion, rather than set a goal. Untrained but willing they will be able to start developing new things within their own worlds.
Uusi Tyyli is about having fun and playing and experimenting like a child not having constraints applied like an adult. It isn’t about a rules based order but about curiosity to improve not seek perfection – there isn’t a right or a wrong with Uusi Tyyli just an electrifying forward motion that provides the energy not the criticism to encourage creatives to think inclusively.

Uusi Tyyli is about sharing the ideas what ever they are because its about finding the 1 great one from the 1000.

It’s about applying the lessons of creativity to inclusion and diversity. It’s about giving a new area of focus to everyone, create a sandbox called inclusion for others to explore whilst drawing attention to all the cool bits to excite and amaze and stimulate as people go.

Inclusive design is all about creating a diversity of ways for people who would otherwise not be able to interact, engage, participate or contribute to your design, art, work or event.
A Viral Design Movement
A Viral Design Movement
Uusi Tyyli is a viral design movement. Propelled by good will, genouristy to ourselves and to others and celebrating making things better. It's a movement that you are a member of as soon as you share your postive change with something. This can be large or very small, ground breaking or just a tweak. The key is that it's your postive change and it improves the lives of others in less obvious ways.

It's the Finnish word for 'new style. We wanted it to be something memorable but also have something to say about positive change and the creation of something new.
Get Involved
Get Involved
At it's heart is a single task that anyone can do to get involved and adopt Uusi Tyyli as a design mantra. Just a simple commitment, a pledge. This pledge involves designing inclusion into your work one piece at a time. So all you need to do is make one positive change that makes your work more inclusive, usable or simply more accessible and then tell someone about it. This might be on your social channels, on ours, a neighbour, or some friends. It doesn't have to be digital nor permanent just enough to create an indelible net positive improvement for you and others.
